Luxury development opens doors...
to village shop

Rockliffe Hall, the luxury hotel, golf and spa development which recently opened its golf facilities, in Hurworth, near Darlington, has taken the surprise step of opening what it best describes as a ‘shop’ in the village.

Rockliffe Hall’s new site, situated on Church Row in Hurworth, sits just a few hundred yards from the entrance to the development. The shop was previously an estate agents office, but has stood empty for a number of years.

Managing director at Rockliffe Hall, Nick Holmes says they’ve taken the unusual step because of the growing number of enquiries about golf or spa memberships, as well as other services and facilities at the luxury development, which is set to become the North East’s first five-star resort of its kind.

He added: “Until now, many of the staff we have employed in the run up to opening have had to operate from temporary offices, which presented its own issues. We knew of the vacant shop, and thought it would be the perfect solution to showcase a little taste of what we are planning here.

“It’s not a shop in the traditional sense, but we will now welcome anybody who wants to see one of the team face-to-face to call in and discuss memberships, bookings, weddings or any other services.”

The development has already appointed some 20 staff in senior positions, including a new sales and marketing director, a director of golf operations, a head professional and a new head chef overseeing the three dining options which will be available at Rockliffe Hall.

The recently opened golf facilities, across the 375-acre site, include an 18-hole championship course, clubhouse and golf academy. The course, which has been designed by Marc Westenborg of celebrated golf course architects Hawtree, measures 7,879 yards, making it one of the longest courses in Europe when played off its back tees.
