Construction update

The recent frosty Easter weather refused to halt progress on site at Rockliffe Hall this month and there are a number of new stages of the development we can tell you about this month.

The all-important piling work, which started before Christmas, is now complete. The completion of the piling is another key stage in Rockliffe Hall’s transformation and its credit to the team at our construction partner, Shepherd, that we have reached this stage right on schedule.

While piling work is being completed, work on the basement and the underpinning of all the walls in the old hall has now started. We are doing lots of work to further secure the foundations of the building as we will be lowering some of the floors to create a new basement level underneath the hall.

This basement will provide the link area for the new service tunnel which is also being built that will join the hall to the new sections of the development being constructed immediately to the west of the old hall.

Above ground, work on the sympathetic re-roofing of the hall to restore that to its former glory has commenced. This also includes the important work on the refurbishment of the chimney structures on the hall. Refurbishing sections like this will show the hall in all its former glory. It is vital to our plans of providing an historical ‘yet contemporary’ elegance for all our visitors to enjoy.

In addition to that, more than 50 per cent of the windows on the old hall have also now been completed. The windows are another key feature that we were keen to combine modern techniques but still offer a traditional feel to their finish.

The unique apart-hotel rooms immediately to the east of the hall are also rapidly taking shape. These newly-built structures are now up to the first floor and work on completing the 18 stylish apart-hotel rooms should be done within weeks.
