Regional experts given nod for five-star Rockliffe Hall development

The expansive team that will put together the north east’s newest five star hotel development has been announced.

Rockliffe Hall Developments is moving ahead with its plans to create the most luxurious hotel and hospitality complex in the region. And in a huge boost for the region’s economy, no fewer than six north east based companies have been named to work alongside the developers to create Rockliffe Hall, a luxury golf and spa complex at a 362-acre site in Hurworth.

Plans involve turning the disused 19th Century hall into one of the finest country house hotels in the UK. Warwick Brindle, of Rockliffe Hall Developments, said: “We are thrilled to be working alongside so many businesses from this region. They have proved they are among the very best in the country at being able to deliver to the extremely high standards we expect of this development.”

“We are at an exciting stage with Rockliffe Hall and, together with all the development partners across the country, will be providing a stunning venue that the region will be proud of.”

Partners confirmed today include North East architects Browne Smith Baker which has offices in Newcastle and Darlington. They will be joined on the project by specialist engineers White Young Green and quantity surveyors Baker Mallett. Both companies are based in Stockton on Tees.

Meanwhile, Glen Kemp of Felling in Gateshead and Newcastle-based Anthony Walker and Partners will be jointly undertaking the vast landscaping project on the 362-acre site.

Bussey & Armstrong of Darlington will act as residential developers on the Rockliffe Hall site that will consist of 26 luxury houses situated on the estate.

Other partners based elsewhere include Oxfordshire-based Hawtree. They will oversee the development of the championship 18-hole golf course, which will be the jewel in the crown for Rockliffe Hall. The course is planned to be the longest 18-hole course in Europe. Rockliffe Hall Developments say the course will be of a standard that will attract visitors not just from the UK, but from across the world.

WM Taylor Pools will supply the specialist spa facilities that will also include a well-being centre. Jeff Mason Design will undertake all the interior design aspects in the five-star development.

Warwick Brindle added: “The sympathetic restoration of the Hall is paramount in our vision and we were delighted to see that all partners placed this as a central theme to their proposals. We have worked very closely with professional advisors to ensure all the plans for each aspect of the proposal respect the site’s rich heritage.”

The site will include a 61-bedroom hotel, including 18 self-contained apartments, conferencing and banqueting halls and three restaurants with private dining. The team hope to start construction work on the site before the end of the year and is expected to be complete in 2009.
